How to Play & Master
Mastering Aegis Saga requires a mix of spatial reasoning and quick tactical decisions. Here is your combat manual:
Step 1: Expand the Grid. At the start of a match, your grid space (modules) is limited. You can spend in-game resources to refresh and expand the number of modules and their positions on the board, giving you more room to deploy troops.
Step 2: Place Your Squad. Drag your anime characters onto the grid. Pay close attention to their shapes! A character taking up 3 vertical blocks won't fit if you only have a 2-block gap. Arrange them efficiently to maximize your deployed units.
Step 3: Merge and Upgrade. As the battle progresses, deploy more units. If you have two identical Level 1 characters on the board, drag one onto the other to merge them into a much stronger Level 2 character, freeing up precious grid space!
Step 4: Choose Your Buffs. Periodically, the game will pause and offer you a choice of three random roguelike buffs (e.g., increased attack speed, critical hit chance, or shielding). Pick the one that best synergizes with your current team composition.
Step 5: Use Active Skills. Do not just watch the auto-battle! When your energy bar fills up, tap your character's portrait to unleash her active skill and obliterate the enemy forces.

Q: I can't place a character on the board. Why?
A: Characters have different shapes (like puzzle pieces). If a character is a 3-block horizontal shape, you must have 3 continuous horizontal empty blocks to place her. Try merging other units to free up space, or refresh your modules!
Q: Are the roguelike buffs permanent?
A: No, the three random buffs you choose during a match are temporary and only apply to that specific battle. You will get to build a new set of buffs in your next match.
Q: When should I use my active skills?
A: Save your active skills for critical moments, such as when a large wave of enemies spawns or when a tough boss appears. Timing is everything!
